Welcome to the 29th issue of the Signalclout newsletter.
Mark Zuckerberg hogged the technology airways this week. Delivering an hour-long presentation about the future of the company he created 17 years ago.
The bottom line is that Facebook is becoming Meta. This playbook was used by Google when they became Alphabet, and I won't be surprised if Amazon goes down a similar path in the future.
While Alphabet didn't paint a vivid picture about the future, Zuckerberg did a great job of outlining a future where the 'real world' and the 'digital world' collide, creating the Metaverse.
The demo's and the possibilities displayed were impressive. However, it left most analysts scratching their heads about how FB will be the foundationary layer to enable all this innovation while capturing value.
Mark Zuckerberg has done very well by acquiring companies like Instagram and Whatsapp to stay relevant in a fast-moving world. This bet is different; it is almost like he wants to start from the dorm room again, only this time he is armed with billions of dollars and perhaps one of the biggest distributions platforms ever built.
On the other hand, this newsletter has been talking about the move away from centralized structures. A future where the power goes back to the individual creator and expensive toll-booths removed.
Facebook is well aware of the macroclimate and the precarious position the company finds itself in at the moment. This issue covers some of my thoughts on potential playbooks that Meta could execute to give Facebook a leg up in this fast-changing world.
