Welcome to the 27th issue of the Signalclout newsletter.
In the last issue, we discussed a world without Facebook.
While I do see a world where Facebook may lose its grip, the probability is that it will most likely be replaced with another monopolistic platform.
Last week's Twitch hack clearly showed that a tiny group of people were accruing most of the creator payouts. Similar numbers are at play on Substack and more generally across all these creator enablement platforms.
A decentralized future promises a world where everyone gets an even shot.
Yet, this week we saw the launch of Diamondapp on $DESO as one of the first projects to get $1m funding from the Octane fund. The app, however, received immediate flack from the community. Firstly, based on the close connections creators had with the $DESO founders and how that gave them privileged access.
A successful decentralized future is one where we have to rewrite the script on our base human desires. While I cannot prove the above, I have seen preferential treatment given on many decentralized projects.
That one behaviour sets off a chain reaction that creates an inner circle, which is the opposite of what we want to achieve.
In this memo, I discuss some of the critical pieces that we need to reduce the impact of power-law distributions by dismantling inner circles.
